Dementia Care Training
Extra Hands provide comprehensive training for individuals and companies across Norfolk.
Our enhanced Dementia training programme helps staff focus services on the individual with dementia so that each visit can be tailored to suit that person’s needs.
Staff are trained to recognise expression of boredom, agitation, distress and general needs related to pain, hunger or thirst when the individual cannot communicate those needs.
Attendees will learn how to identify signs of 'well being’ or ‘ill being’ when doing certain activities.
No Service User will be forced to undertake an activity they do not what to be engaged in.
Previous training feedback has been very positive; staff have said that they have encouraged the person to talk more and have found so much more about the person when they are participating in this sort of activity than all the time they have known the person.
Topics covered include:
- Understanding different types of dementia
- Supporting family and friends
- The ‘Person Centred’ Approach
- Physical conditions causing confusion
- The Enriched Model
- Malignant Social Psychology
- Demonstration of activities and reminiscence
- Psychological needs
- Abuse Awareness
This is interactive training held over three sessions, with a homework activity, attendees are given training manuals to take away and a certificate of attendance issued.
