Signalong Phase 2 Course

The Signalong Phase 2 course is a 15-hour (over 3 days) accredited course. Learners must have already completed the Foundation Course Phase 1 to attend.
Learners gain access to a wider range of vocabulary and have the opportunity to practice signing together, learning a further 346 signs.

Who is this course for?

Anyone who needs more practice; people responsible for conducting risk assessment and putting controls into practice, i.e. understanding the wider management of health and safety. Managers, supervisors, business owners, safety representatives.

The qualification will enable successful candidate to understand and, at Level 3, put into practice the following:

  • The importance of health and safety in the workplace
  • The principles involved in risk assessment
  • The relationship between hazard and risk as part of an accident and ill health prevention

Dementia Awareness

This course is suitable for carers who are looking after a person with dementia or who wishes to learn more about the condition.

The course is suitable for learners of all levels, including those who work in care home settings, medical settings or simply relatives who are looking after a family member with the condition at home.

The course is designed as an introduction to the topic of dementia and so no pre-requisite training or knowledge is needed.

This FREE* half day workshop aims to increase practitioner and manager confidence in recognising and working with people who have care and support needs and are experiencing coercive control, to lead to better outcomes for this group.

The workshop will discuss recent developments in legislation around controlling and coercive behaviour as linked to domestic abuse, and consider how this can be understood in a wider context of adult safeguarding.

We’ll look at messages from research to inform practice before considering how to make safe enquiries, and how coercion can impact on mental capacity.

We finish by signposting to further resources and materials that attendees can use to enhance their knowledge around this issue.

This will be an interactive session with opportunities for group discussion based around case studies.

Attendees will be expected to have a working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Conflict Resolution and Breakaway Training

This full day course teaches effective communication models to de-escalate conflict situations, breakaway skills and additional physical interventions to prevent the individual from harming themselves or others. The course is designed to teach employees the importance of using breakaway techniques whilst remaining safe whilst utilising effective communication skills, and encompasses all elements of legalities, local relevant policies and procedures.

Topics Covered:

  • Understand what conflict is, the common causes of conflict and the different stages of conflict as these situations escalate.
  • Explore the two forms of communication; verbal and non-verbal.
  • Identify cultural differences in communication.
  • Recognise the common behavioural patterns whilst understanding body language and stance. Learn and explore safe moving skills and breakaway techniques whilst understanding the medical implications.

Consider and understand the law and legalities surrounding breakaway techniques.

Harm Free Care

Extra Hands provide comprehensive training for individuals and companies across Norfolk.

Our course includes falls prevention, nutrition and hydration and pressure ulcers. It is important that staff encourage mobility wherever possible, keeping a person more active reduces muscle wasting and helps prevent falls.

Attendees will learn how to recognise signs and symptoms of malnutrition and dehydration, skin breakdown / pressure areas and whom to report concerns.

A half-day training session to enable staff and volunteers to recognise safeguarding concerns and to know what to do when concerns arise.

Learning outcomes: By the end of this session participants should:

  • Understand what safeguarding is and your role in safeguarding adults.
  • Recognise an adult potentially in need of safeguarding and take action.
  • Understand the procedures for making a safeguarding alert.
  • Understand dignity and respect when working with individuals.
