Epilepsy and Seizure Management

To provide awareness of epilepsy and seizures, including the knowledge, skills and confidence required in relation to person-centred epilepsy management.
To include:

  • The different types and classification of seizures
  • Potential causes and common trigger factors of epilepsy and seizure
  • The long term and short term effects that seizures may have for an individual
  • Status epilepticus – how to recognise and respond appropriately, following care plans and guidelines
  • First aid for convulsive and non-convulsive seizures
  • Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) and safe administration of rectal diazepam & buccal midazolam (practical using training models)
  • The importance of respecting and protecting privacy and providing support with dignity
  • To critically assess the importance of when and how to seek specialist advice and support
  • Correct record keeping and documentation

Signalong Foundation Phase 1 Course

Signalong is a key word sign-supported communication system based on British sign language which is used to help adults and children with impaired communication to understand and express their needs, choices and desires.

The Signalong Phase 1 Foundation course is a 15-hour (over 3 days) accredited course and suitable for those supporting Signalong users. Learners will learn how to apply signing in their own environment with an emphasis on the practical application of signing. This covers all vocabulary in the Signalong Phase 1 manual (at least 360 signs).

Prevent (Preventing Extremism and Radicalisation)

Summary

This short workshop is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent is one of the four elements of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It enables staff to recognise when a person may be being targeted and groomed for radicalisation and ensuring that staff members know how to refer their concerns on to Norfolk County Council’s Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). The workshop is delivered by a Home Office approved trainer.

Learning outcomes

This event will enable you to:
• Understand how people can be influenced or radicalised
• Understand vulnerability factors which can lead to people being radicalised
• Understand how to notice concerns that someone may be vulnerable to radicalisation in your day to day job
• Understand how to share concerns about people vulnerable to radicalisation within your day to day job
