Safeguarding Awareness

A half-day training session to enable staff and volunteers to recognise safeguarding concerns and to know what to do when concerns arise.

Learning outcomes: By the end of this session participants should:

  • Understand what safeguarding is and your role in safeguarding adults.
  • Recognise an adult potentially in need of safeguarding and take action.
  • Understand the procedures for making a safeguarding alert.
  • Understand dignity and respect when working with individuals.
  • Understand the importance of the Making Safeguarding Personal agenda in your role.

Have knowledge of policy, procedures and legislation that supports safeguarding adults activity.

Prevent (Preventing Extremism and Radicalisation)

Summary

This short workshop is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent is one of the four elements of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It enables staff to recognise when a person may be being targeted and groomed for radicalisation and ensuring that staff members know how to refer their concerns on to Norfolk County Council’s Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). The workshop is delivered by a Home Office approved trainer.

Learning outcomes

This event will enable you to:
• Understand how people can be influenced or radicalised
• Understand vulnerability factors which can lead to people being radicalised
• Understand how to notice concerns that someone may be vulnerable to radicalisation in your day to day job

AIM

A very practical half-day session to provide a safe space for practitioners and managers who already know the signs and symptoms of neglect, and who are aware of the ethical and moral dilemmas involved, to work through a range of case studies and consider the options available to promote the person’s well-being, to reduce the risks of harm and to know when a safeguarding response is required.

TARGET GROUP

This is event is for all social workers, assistant practitioners and managers who already have a basic understanding of self neglect, the Care Act definition causes and the ethical dilemmas involved. It is also available to employees of health and social care organisations elsewhere in the county of Norfolk.

LEARNING OUTCOMES: BY THE END OF THIS SESSION PARTICIPANTS SHOULD:

  • Have acknowledged the challenges for professionals intervening in self neglect and be able to identify and implement evidence based interventions to promote the well-being of the person and safeguard them from harm when required
  • Be able to apply local guidance and legislation to promote the well-being of people who self neglect
  • Ensure that people who self neglect receive person centred intervention to improve their health and well-being.
  • Ensure that people who lack the capacity to safeguard themselves from the harm of self neglect /hoarding receive safeguarding intervention which identifies and reduces the risk of harm.

Mental Health First Aid

This two day course is the mental health equivalent of physical first aid training and provides delegates with the skills and confidence to recognize the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues and effectively guide a person towards the right support.

The course will introduce delegates to...

  • Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health
  • Depression and suicidal crisis
  • Anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders and self harm
  • Psychosis, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

1. Spot the early signs of a mental health issue
2. Feel confident helping someone experiencing a mental health issue
3. Provide help on a first aid basis
4. Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
5. Help stop a mental health issue from getting worse
6. Help someone recover faster
7. Guide someone towards the right support
8. Reduce the stigma of mental health issues

MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist – but just like physical first aid, it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis.

Our Moving and Handling Training has been sourced by Residential Care Homes and other community professionals.

This training is delivered as a full day, with the aim to give staff a full understanding of the potential risks of injury to themselves and their Service Users, giving knowledge of how to eliminate unsafe practices and implement safe techniques.
