Moving and Handling Training
Extra Hands provide comprehensive training for individuals and companies across Norfolk.
Our Moving and Handling Training has been sourced by Residential Care Homes and other community professionals.
This training is delivered as a full day, with the aim to give staff a full understanding of the potential risks of injury to themselves and their Service Users, giving knowledge of how to eliminate unsafe practices and implement safe techniques.
Extra Hands Moving and Handling Training covers relevant legislation, along with risk assessments and the following:
• Anatomy of the spine
• Causes of back pain
• Assessing and reducing risks
• Basic principles of biomechanics
• Ergonomics
• Unsafe lifting practices
• Small handling aids
• Hoist and sling practical work
This is an interactive training session with practical involvement. Attendees are given training manuals to take away and a certificate of attendance issued.

Safeguarding Awareness
A half-day training session to enable staff and volunteers to recognise safeguarding concerns and to know what to do when concerns arise.
Learning outcomes: By the end of this session participants should:
- Understand what safeguarding is and your role in safeguarding adults.
- Recognise an adult potentially in need of safeguarding and take action.
- Understand the procedures for making a safeguarding alert.
- Understand dignity and respect when working with individuals.
- Understand the importance of the Making Safeguarding Personal agenda in your role.
Have knowledge of policy, procedures and legislation that supports safeguarding adults activity.

Our course includes falls prevention, nutrition and hydration and pressure ulcers. It is important that staff encourage mobility wherever possible, keeping a person more active reduces muscle wasting and helps prevent falls.
Attendees will learn how to recognise signs and symptoms of malnutrition and dehydration, skin breakdown / pressure areas and whom to report concerns.
