Diabetes Awareness Training

DUET diabetes provides interactive diabetes education and training to staff at all levels in the care sector, and all our workshops are delivered by an experienced Diabetes Specialist Nurse. Our workshops are for up to 12 attendees in order to maintain an interactive learning environment.
The Diabetes Awareness Training workshop is relevant for carers/staff at all levels (including dining room staff and activity leaders for example) and lasts approximately 4 hours (with a refreshments break). It covers:

  • What diabetes is and the different types of diabetes
  • The signs and symptoms of diabetes
  • Monitoring – what checks are done to ensure that diabetes is well controlled
  • The long term effects (complications) of diabetes
  • How diabetes is treated
  • Management of high and low blood sugars
  • Sick day care
  • Dietary management of diabetes
  • Footcare

 


Price Information

The cost is per person and includes a delegate pack, certificate of attendance and a copy of the post workshop Evaluation Report. Full payment must be made in advance (by BACS or cheque).

Early Warning Signs (NEWS2)

NEWS2* has now received endorsement from NHS England and NHS Improvement to become the early warning system for identifying acutely ill patients, including those with sepsis.

This course for RNS and senior care staff aims to facilitate knowledge and promote recognition of common early warning signs for a number of different medical conditions, helping staff to learn the importance of assessing, responding and effectively managing deterioration
in health and well-being.

*The National Early Warning Score (NEWS2) December 2017 includes new-onset confusion (delirium) – risk factors, causes, symptoms and presentation.

This training includes:

  • •Recognising early warning signs for several conditions: Urinary Tract Infections, Aspirational Pneumonia, Stroke, Heart attack, Dementia, Diabetes, Dehydration, Constipation.
  • •Understanding and utilising the NEWS2 documentation: Evaluation, Scoring, threshold and triggers, clinical response.
  • •Understanding accountabilities and responsibilities and timely, effective responses to early warning signs of deterioration in health and well-being for the people we care for and support

Moving and Handling Training

Extra Hands provide comprehensive training for individuals and companies across Norfolk.

Our Moving and Handling Training has been sourced by Residential Care Homes and other community professionals.

This training is delivered as a full day, with the aim to give staff a full understanding of the potential risks of injury to themselves and their Service Users, giving knowledge of how to eliminate unsafe practices and implement safe techniques.

Extra Hands Moving and Handling Training covers relevant legislation, along with risk assessments and the following:
• Anatomy of the spine
• Causes of back pain
• Assessing and reducing risks
• Basic principles of biomechanics
• Ergonomics
• Unsafe lifting practices
• Small handling aids
• Hoist and sling practical work

This is an interactive training session with practical involvement. Attendees are given training manuals to take away and a certificate of attendance issued.

This is a full day course within the training suite 9.30am to 4.30pm. Refreshments are provided throughout the day; however the learner will need to provide their own lunch.

Sensible clothing and footwear should be worn due to practical elements; ladies may prefer to wear trousers.

Extra Hands are involved in the Norfolk Medication Working Party and our training reflects Norfolk County Council’s policy. This training equips staff with the knowledge and skills to confidently support Service Users with their medication on a daily basis.
