This course aims to ensure staff and carers are aware of their responsibilities and accountabilities for record keeping and documentation in line with statutory guidelines, best practice and legal requirements and to improve staff confidence in this essential skill.

Extra Hands food safety training gives staff an understanding of food hygiene practices, how to safely prepare foods and the importance of efficient hygiene.

Food Safety Level 2 Award in Catering

A Level 2 Qualification, approved and accredited by Highfield Qualifications and mapped to the RQF.

An interactive session with practical elements and exercises, this course is designed to enable the candidate to understand the principles of food safety and how they should be applied in the workplace and to ensure that all food handlers control food safety risks.

The course includes:

  • How individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety: food safety procedures, risk assessment, safe food handling and behaviour
  • The importance of personal cleanliness and hygiene and reducing the risk of contamination : effective personal hygiene practices, e.g. protective clothing, hand washing
  • Keeping work areas clean and hygienic, safe use and storage of cleaning chemicals and materials, safe waste disposal; pest control
  • Keeping food safe: sources and risks to food safety from contamination including microbial, chemical, physical and allergenic hazards
  • How to deal with food spoilage incl. reporting and disposal
  • Safe handling practices and procedures for storing, preparing, cooking, chilling, reheating, holding, serving and transporting food

A written assessment of learning is included in this session as required by the Awarding Body.

Externally certificates, this qualification is valid for 3 years (with a mid-way Refresher recommended).

Moving and Handling Refresher

Our Moving and Handling Training has been sourced by Residential Care Homes and other community professionals.

This training is a refresher / update of the full day course.

The aim is to ensure staff are still aware of the potential risks of injury to themselves and their Service Users and to update them on any legislative changes.

Competency of staff knowledge on how to eliminate unsafe practices and implement safe techniques is reviewed and observed.

Conflict Resolution and Personal Safety Training

Our Conflict Resolution and Personal Safety Training course will equip staff with the necessary skills to manage and de-escalate conflict promptly, professionally and safely. The course will improve your self-awareness and confidence and provide simple but effective skills to safely remove yourself from potential harm.

Conflict Resolution:

Harm Free Care

Our course includes falls prevention, nutrition and hydration and pressure ulcers. It is important that staff encourage mobility wherever possible, keeping a person more active reduces muscle wasting and helps prevent falls.
