Norfolk County Council Work Placement Support Service needs your help

Norfolk County Council have been awarded a contract by the Careers and Enterprise Company (funded by the Department for Education) to support students to gain experience of the workplace across Norfolk.

This is part of the DfE’s commitment to Norwich as an opportunity area, and aims to bring business and education closer together, to help inspire and prepare young people for the fast changing world of work.

As part of this initiative, NCC are supporting a group of post-16 learners on vocational programmes with City College Norwich.  A large number of these students are studying for a BTEC Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health and Social Care. As part of their qualification, the students are looking to carry out a minimum of 10 hours unpaid work experience in a health or social care setting.

The structure or placements can be very flexibled and City College are willing to release their students for placement at any time between now and the end of the academic year, July 2018. So if you feel you may be able to help, NCC would be pleased to work around whatever suits you best.

NCC are happy for the experience to be quite broad as the main aim is to give students a taster of the working world and an insight into their chosen career path. If you were able to offer a taster workplace session, either for an individual student or group of students for a half day/day then this would be very welcome!

For these short placements, NCC are approaching employers in the hope they may be able to accommodate several students over the course of the next 7 months.  It is appreciated that short placements can sometimes be more difficult to manage and may come with additional constraints however, if you felt you may be able to help then that would really helpful.

NCC are also approaching employers to ask if they could offer other opportunities, such as work shadowing, work place visits or careers talks, so if you felt a traditional work experience placement may not be appropriate, but that you could consider an alternative work related activity, any support you could offer would be much appreciated.
