The Care Connectors project – taking “real world” social care into the classroom.
N.B. This project is now complete. Should funding become available to deliver sessions using the resources we will promote this on this webpage.
N&SCS was given grant money from Norfolk County Council to further develop the work we were already doing in schools and colleges through the I Care…Ambassador service.
With that resource we were able to do three things.
- We produced a DVD (see below) for use in schools and colleges that gives students a flavour of what working in adult social care is like in a number of different settings and with different client groups. It lets students know about the career paths and qualifications available and, perhaps more importantly, focusses on the personal values needed for good and effective social care.
- We produced a suite of classroom activities to deliver to health and social care students in schools. The resources are designed to meet school curriculum needs and are co-delivered by N&SCS and a group of “Care Connectors”; professionals working in adult care who are passionate about their work and want to share their experiences with students. The resources also include activities for students to do, making the lessons interactive and fun.
- We ran a CPD event for teachers and careers advisors in March 2017 at Bowthorpe Care Village. The resources and DVD were launched there and teachers were given the opportunity to network with local care provider employers who are always looking to recruit staff.
