Data Security and Protection Toolkit

Support to help you complete the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DPST)

The Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT) is an online self-assessment of your organisation’s data security. The toolkit demonstrates compliance with data protection legislation. It also gives advice and is a checklist of good practice. It is a compulsory requirement to successfully complete the DSPT if you have an NHSmail account, you have access to any NHS digital records, or you contract with the NHS. During the COVID-19 outbreak, the NHS temporarily waived this requirement. However, this waiver will come to an end on the 30 June 2021.

N&SCS is part of the Better Security, Better Care programme to assist care providers in Norfolk to complete the toolkit. We will be doing this through a helpdesk; website resources; webinars and interactive online workshops delivered in partnership with White's Training. It is funded by NHSX to support data and cyber security across the adult social care sector.

Webinars: Introducing the DSPT

In these one-hour webinars we will cover:

What the DSPT is
Registering with the DSPT
The policies and documents that you need to complete the DSPT.

Once you have completed this webinar you can attend our two-hour interactive online workshops which will take you through everything you need to do to complete and publish the DSPT.

Interactive workshops: Completing the DSPT

In these two-hour interactive online workshops we will go through the DSPT question by question working in a small group to ensure all your questions are answered will the aim of hopefully getting to a point where you can confidently complete the DSPT. Each workshop is limited to 10 people so everyone gets the maximum level of support.

You will need to attend two workshops to cover the full DSPT.

  • Workshop A covers Staffing & Roles and Policies & Procedures
  • Workshop B covers Data Security and IT Systems & Devices

You can only attend one of these more intensive webinars once you have first attended our 'Introducing the DSPT' webinars. Details of how to book onto a 'Completing the DSPT' workshop will be provided after you have attended the introductory webinar.

These workshops are being delivered in partnership with White's Training - an N&SCS Approved, and Skills for Care Endorsed Training Provider.

Webinars: What's changed on the DSPT?

If you have used the DSPT before and have previously made a submission then we recommend you attend the one-hour 'What's changed?' webinar

In this webinar we will explain what has recently changed with the questions and what you need to do to ensure you are now compliant.

If you have previously published at 'Entry Level' we will explain the new 'Approaching Standards' level and the steps you would need to take to publish at 'Standards Met'.

Completing the DSPT yourself

If you feel confident to register and complete the DSPT yourself using online resources (guides and videos) you can access them here.
